The Tyrrish Rebellion was a event in the Kingdom of Navarre, that took place six years prior to the start of Fourth Wing. The events that occurred during the Rebellion, largely influence the events happening in the Empyrean series.
History[]
Most members of the Rebellion came from the province of Tyrrendor. The goal of the Rebellion was for Tyrrendor to claim independence from Navarre in order to join the war against the venin. The rebellion was led by Fen Riorson, who gained valuable allies including Viscount Tecarus and Colonel Mairi.[1] The Tyrrish people use the term "apostasy" whereas the Navarrians use the word "secession"[2] to describe the Tyrrish Rebellion.
The Rebellion was unsuccessful and concluded with the executions of all rebellion leaders, known as the Calldyr Executions.[3] While the official members of the Rebellion were executed in Calldyr City, associated parties, including Isaac Mairi, were privately executed in their homes as well.[2]
The rebellion was headquartered at it's capital of Aretia. After the Battle of Aretia and the Calldyr Executions, Aretia was burned and razed to the ground.
Leadership[]
Fen Riorson[]
Fen Riorson, Xaden's father, was the leader of the Tyrrish Rebellion. He committed high treason against the Kingdom of Navarre and was referred to as "the Great Betrayer." At the Battle of Aretia, he was believed to have slain Brennan Sorrengail.[1] He, alongside fellow members of the rebellion, was executed at Calldyr by the dragon Codagh with the use of dragon fire.[3]
According to Colonel Lewis Markham's book, "Navarre, an Unedited History," Fen lost his sanity and accused King Tauri of a vast conspiracy during his last days of interrogation.[4]

Colonel Mairi[]
She was one of the leaders of the Tyrrish Rebellion and was because of this executed by dragon fire during the Calldyr executions.[2] She was skilled with Runes and made the 107 protection runes for the children of the rebellion leaders, which would protect them when their parents would be gone. The Colonel's runes led to General Melegren being unable to use his signet in any context with the marked ones, ensuring the marked ones protection and safety.[3]
Issac Mairi[]
Isaac Mairi was married to Colonel Mairi, one of the leaders of the Tyrrish Rebellion. Unlike his wife, who participated in the Rebellion, he himself was not a member of it. He wasn't on the death roll of the executions at Calldyr, but he was executed too. Isaac was executed at his family's home, on the same day the executions at Calldyr took place. While his son Liam Mairi had to watch the execution of his father, if Sloane Mairi was present is unknown.[2]
Sixty Six Unnamed Officers[]
These officers were involved in the rebellion, not including Fen and Colonel Mairi, and were executed at Calldyr for their roles in the rebellion.

Aftermath[]
Fate of the Rebellion leaders[]
Members of the rebellion, and their families, were referred to as "separatists" by the Kingdom of Navarre. The leaders were all executed at Calldyr by Codaghs dragonfire.[2]
The 107 Marked Children[]
All rebellion leaders' children under the age of 20 at the time were forced to watch their parents' executions, and were branded with rebellion relics by General Melgren's dragon, Codagh, and then were displaced and fostered by loyal high ranking families with siblings separated. 107 were marked with rebellion relics, with the oldest being Xaden Riorson, and the youngest being a girl named Julianne, who was born with her relic.[2]
There were disagreements among military leaders on how to handle the children of the rebels, with General Lilith Sorrengail stating in an official brief to King Tauri, "It is not this general's opinion that the children of rebellion leaders should be forced to witness their parents' executions."[5]
As part of the peace deal between Lilith Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson, all Marked Ones (those bearing rebellion relics) were required to enroll at Basgiath War College and join the Riders Quadrant. [2]
Destruction of Aretia[]
“ | In this 628th year of our union, it is hereby recorded that-in accordance with the treaty to end the Seperatist movement-Aretia was burned to the grounds by dragons. Those who fled have survived. Those who did not flee, lie in ruins. | ” |

Rules[]
There are two specific additions to the Codex regarding Marked Ones:
- Addendum 5.2: "In the best interest of preserving peace within Navarre, no more than three cadets carrying rebellion relics may be assigned to any squad of any quadrant."[6]
- Addendum 5.3: In addition to last year's changes, marked ones assembling in groups of three or more will now be considered an act of seditious conspiracy and is hereby a capital offense.[6]
Current Day[]
The Revolution[]
After the failure of the Rebellion, those that lost faith in Navarre- both survivors and sympathizers rebuilt Aretia and created the Revolution. The group leading the revolution is known as the Assembly which notably includes Xaden Riorson and Brenann Sorrengail.
