Tyrrendor is one of the six provinces of Navarre.[1]
Geography[]
Tyrrendor is the largest and southernmost province of Navarre, characterized by its hostile, mountainous terrain. It is bordered by Calldyr, Luceras, and Deaconshire to the north, Elsum to the east, and the Poromish province of Krovla further east. To the west lies the Emerald Sea, and to the south, the Article Ocean, making Tyrrendor nearly impenetrable.[1]
Prior to the Tyrrish Rebellion, its capital had been Aretia.[2] The Cliffs of Dralor provide a natural protective barrier that separates Tyrrendor from the kingdom of Poromiel.[1] These cliffs elevate the province thousands of feet above the surrounding continent.[3]
The protective wards originating from the Vale near Basgiath War College fall short of Tyrrendor's mountainous borders. As a result, the entire southwestern coastline, including Aretia, remains exposed to potential threats.[4]
History[]
Tyrrendor was the last province bordering Poromiel to join the alliance and swear fealty to King Reginald during the Unification of Navarre. However, 627 years later, Tyrrendor attempted to secede from Navarre, an act that, if successful, would have left the kingdom vulnerable to Poromiel.[1]
The Tyrrish Rebellion (known as the apostasy by the Tyrrish) culminated in the burning of Tyrrendor's capital, Aretia, though many buildings remained because they were made of stone.[5] Following the rebellion:
- The House of Lewellen assumed governance of Tyrrendor in accordance with the Treaty of Aretia.[6]
- The majority of the leaders of the rebellion were taken to Calldyr and executed (Calldyr executions). Others were executed within their houses, such as Isaac Mairi).[2]
- Most of the great houses were given to nobles who had remained loyal to Navarre.[2]
- Navarre-loyal Tyrrish riders were promoted, while those who rebelled were killed or executed.[7]
Despite these measures, surviving members formed the Assembly and started the Revolution to continue the cause.
By the events of Fourth Wing, protests over conscription laws had grown across Tyrrendor. Lieutenant Colonel Alyssa Travonte recommended an influx of defensive spending on outposts to bolster their economy and remind the Tyrrish that they are needed to defend the kingdom. Due to Tyrrendor's size, it continues to provide the majority of conscripts for Navarre's front lines.[8]
Due to its size, it provides the majority of conscripts that replenish Navarre's front lines.[8]
Culture[]
Tyrrish customs include tying Tyrrish knots and taking responsibility for others by having scars carved on your body. Much of Tyrrendor's unique culture was after the Unification of Navarre, including its language, songs, festivals and libraries. The only preserved cultural aspect is the use of runes, which remained integral to Tyrrish architecture.[2][9]
Tyrrendor once controlled and perfected the art of tempering runes before being banned a few centuries after the Unification.[10]
