Tomas was the squad leader for Second Wing, Flame Section, Second Squad. He participated in squad leader duties alongside Rhiannon Matthias, including overseeing sparring matches, and was, alongside three of his squadmates, grouped with Violet's team during the land navigation portion of Riders Survival Course during their second year. He ultimately sacrificed his life to save the life of an Infantry Cadet named Gwen and died as a result of Baide's dragonfire.[1]

Every rider is capable of using lesser magic once their dragon begins channeling through them after Threshing. With this channeling, riders are able to; open doors without touching them, preternatural speed, manipulating mage lights, and powering ink pens.[2] Lesser magic also allows riders to place runes.
