The Parapet is located at the Basgiath War College.
General Information[]
To become a cadet in the Riders Quadrant, rider candidates must cross the parapet on Conscription Day. It is located in the southern turret and candidates must climb two hundred and fifty steps to reach the stone parapet. The parapet itself is two hundred feet in the air and is only eighteen inches wide. The exact length of the parapet is unknown. Due to its height, the wind is very strong and can blow candidates off, causing them to fall to their death. Any rain or wet conditions could cause candidates to lose their footing and fall, as they don't delay the walk across for bad weather conditions[1]. Candidates can only take what they can carry across the parapet.
There are second- or third-year riders that are accompanied by scribes based at the bottom of the turret, at the top of the turret, and on the other side of the parapet in the courtyard of the citadel. They serve to provide data on the number of candidates that successfully climbed the turret and cross the parapet for the scribes. Though climbing the turret is not an official entrance test for the Riders Quadrant, there is no railing and candidates have been known to fall to their death while climbing the stairs.
On average, fifteen percent of rider candidates die each year attempting to cross the parapet. Eighteen percent of candidates died attempting to cross the parapet during Violet Sorrengail's first year.
