Sgaeyl is a navy-blue Daggertail dragon who is mated with Tairneanach and bonded with Xaden Riorson.

Early Life[]
Sgaeyl is from the Gormfaileas Line of dragons. She was previous bonded to Xaden's grandfather. She did not bond for another fifty years until she bonded with Xaden during his Threshing.

Physical Description[]
Sgaeyl is a large navy-blue Daggertail with glistening blue horns that rise above her head in an elegant, lethal sweep, wide nostrils, and large golden eyes.[1] She is formidable in size. Her Daggertail has knifelike spikes at the tip. The tip of her wings' top joint are crowned by a single fierce talon.

She is vicious, even most dragons steer clear of her.[2] She does whatever she wants, whenever she wants, according to Professor Kaori.[3] She shows her softer side when she is around Tairneanach. Her voice is usually the opposite of gentle in Violet Sorrengail's mind. She has never been a fan of bullies.

As a dragon, Sgaeyl has a certain level of inner power, which they channel through their bonded rider in the form of lesser magic and an individual signet ability. The stronger the bond and the more powerful the dragon, the stronger the signet. Sgaeyl uses their magic to mark their bonded rider with a dragon relic.
Abilities[]
Like any other dragon, Sgaeyl can fly, breathe fire, and use their daggertail, talons, and fangs to damage enemies. Sgaeyl can communicate telepathically with their bonded rider, and with other dragons and gryphons. Sgaeyl can sense other dragons mind-to-mind at will, they also can sense runes.
Relationships[]
Tairneanach[]
Sgaeyl and Tairneanach are mated dragons, who have chosen to adopt the orphaned dragon Andarna together. They have the strongest bond in centuries. Due to being mates, they have trouble going more than a week without seeing the other, which causes issues when her current rider Xaden graduates and is assigned away from Basgiath while Tairneanach's rider, Violet, is still a rider at Basgiath. Throughout the book Iron Flame, the pair struggle with the distance and worry for each other when conflict arises. Their feelings for each other bleed over into their riders as well, whether its romantic feelings, sexual, worry, etc. Keeping Xaden's second signet from Tairneanach caused a deep rift in their relationship.
Xaden Riorson[]
Even though she has been bonded to him for three years she actually was not supposed to. Bonding a human that is a direct descendent of a previous rider is frowned upon and can cause the rider to either go insane or develop a second signet. Due to Sgaeyl being a powerful dragon, Xaden manifested two signets: shadow wielding and inntinnsic.
Xaden's Grandfather[]
Prior to Xaden, Sgaeyl had bonded his grandfather. He, however, did not survive until graduation according to Xaden.[4]
