Pre-Canon Events:[]

Fen Riorson, Xaden's father and leader of the Tyrrish Rebellion, was credited for shooting Brennan Sorrengail, Violets older brother, with a crossbolt during the battle of Aretia thereby killing him. General Lilith Sorrengail, Violets mother, ended up capturing Fen during the Battle of Aretia and ultimately executed him after interrogation. Xaden later approached Lilith for a favor, asking her to allow all the children of the rebellion to have a chance Liliths compromise was allowing them all to enter the Riders Quadrant as long as Xaden took responsibility for each of the marked ones. In return Lilith later asked him to watch over Violet, assuming she survived parapet, to make sure no one killed her outside of challenges or her own stupidity. Lilith was responsible for cutting 107 marks into Xadens back with a knife, per Tyrrish custom.

While the timeline has yet to be clarified, Xaden did at some point discover that Brennan Sorrengail had not died due to his fathers crossbolt, unbeknowst to the rest of the Sorrengail family. The two sons ended up joining forces to start The Second Rebellion with the help of the Assembly held in Riorson House during the rebuilding of Aretia. During this time Xaden, alongside Garrick and Bodhi, began to smuggle weaponry out of Basgiath War College for others in an attempt to protect them from the Wyvern threat.

Violet was warned by her older sister Mira to avoid Xaden prior to her conscription day due to the long, complicated history between the two families.

Biography[]

Fourth Wing[]

She was attracted to Xaden from the first time that she saw him on the parapet but even though she was worried that he would kill her, she continued to challenge him.

She gained respect for him when she learned that he was trying to help the first-year marked kids survive in the Riders Quadrant and agreed to keep that secret. Violet struggled with jealousy because of Imogen's close friendship with Xaden. After discovering that Violet had been poisoning all of her sparring challenge opponents Xaden takes the opportunity to take their place and spar with Violet in an effort to both confront her about poisoning opponents as well as thank her for keeping his secret safe. She however, still fearful of his true intentions, believed he would use the opportunity to kill her.

As the two inevitably begin to grow closer Violet started to compare the way Dain and Xaden would react to certain situations, noting that Xaden would be a lot more violent while Dain was more likely to stick with formal repercussions.

Her life became attached to his when she bonded with Tairneanach, who is mated to Xaden's dragon, Sgaeyl. This strong mating bond allowed Violet to communicate not only with her own dragons but with Xaden and Sgaeyl as well. Moreover it forced them to prioritize her survival, as Violets death would likely trigger a chain reaction that would kill all four of them because of her intense bond with Tairneanach. While she understood the importance of their connection Violet was frequently annoyed at the lengths Xaden would go to to keep her safe, including instructing Imogen to begin training her after hours and forcing Liam to become a pseudo-bodyguard that slept outside of her warded door. Despite this annoyance their attraction grew until the finally shared their first kiss under the intense influence of Tairneanach and Sgaeyl mating. It was during this kiss that Violet first manifested her lightning signet, and though Xaden had a suspicion he kept it to himself.

The two eventually stopped trying to deny their feelings for one another and began a physical relationship despite the fact that their relationship was frowned upon. Dain, Violet's childhood best friend and the one most suspicious of Xaden's true intentions, attempted to drive a wedge between them several times. The last attempt led him to read her mind using his signet, hoping to prove his father wrong about Violet and Xaden. However Violet proved Colonel Aetos right and so Dain betrayed her, telling his father the truth and allowing Colonel Aetos to send Xaden, Violet, Liam and the rest of his War Game Squad to Athebyne and onward to Resson. This act would ultimately lead to Liam's death during the ensuing battle, a close and personal loss for both Violet and Xaden. However Violet was also gravely injured during the battle and Xaden was forced to bring her to Aretia for mending. The betrayal at discovering that Xaden not only knew about Brennan, but that he had kept several secrets from her regarding a Second Rebellion resulted in a falling out between the two of them.

Quotes[]

Fascinating. You look all frail and breakable but you're really a violent little thing, aren't you?

–Xaden to Violet, Fourth Wing, Chapter 7

You want to know why you’re still alive? Because you’re the scale I currently judge myself against every night. Every day I let you live, I get to convince myself that there’s still a part of me that’s a decent person. So if you want to quit, then please, spare me the temptation and fucking quit. But if you want to do something, then do it.

Xaden Riorson to Violet, Fourth Wing, Chapter 10

Killing you wouldn't be any trouble, Violence. It's leaving you alive that seems to cause the majority of my trouble.

Xaden Riorson to Violet, Fourth Wing, Chapter 10

The right way isn't the only way. Figure it out.

–Xaden to Violet, Fourth Wing, Chapter 10
