Professor Carr is a teacher at Basgiath War College.
Biography[]
Professor Carr is the professor of wielding.[1] He helps cadets learn how to nurture their signets, develop shields and master lesser magic. He is mentioned before he is introduced because Violet doesn't get to take his class until she starts channeling. He is first seen by Violet when he kills Jeremiah in public because the student's inntinnsic ability manifests.
When she manifests her signet, Carr shows up at her door the next morning, saying that she needs to learn to wield quickly if she is making lightning strikes in her sleep. He takes her to a far off field to practice. He attempts to train Violet, though he does not have a lot of knowledge about lightning wielders. As they train, she notes he cares more about quantity of strikes as opposed to aim.
In Iron Flame, he is there when Varrish punishes Violet for not bringing Andarna by forcing Violet to near burnout. Carr ultimately sticks up for her, telling Varrish that her death, and Xaden's, would be a great loss to the war effort. Varrish still pushes, and she reaches the brink of burnout. Carr tells her how to calm the burnout and encourages her to bring Andarna next time to avoid Violet's own death, as well as Xaden's, Sgaeyl's, and Tairn's deaths. [2]

Carr is described with thin white hair and surprising strength, with an imposing bearing. There is no kindness to him, just clinical observation.

Lesser Magic[]
Every rider is capable of using Lesser magic once their dragon begins channeling through them after Threshing. With this channeling, riders are able to; open doors without touching them, preternatural speed, manipulating mage lights, and powering ink pens.[3] Lesser magic also allows riders to place runes.
