–Professor Kaori, Fourth Wing, Chapter 8

Naolin was a dragon rider bonded with Tairneanach.

Biography[]

Naolin was Tairneanach's former, and only, rider prior to Violet. During the Tyrrish Rebellion, he attempted to revive Brennan Sorrengail during the Battle of Aretia by using his signet. However he depleted his magic in the process and burned out, dying next to Brennan.[1]

Relationships[]

Tairneanach[]

Before the Tyrrish Rebellion, Tairneanach claimed Naolin as his first rider, one of the largest and deadliest dragons in Navarre. After Naolin's death, Tairneanach refused to bond himself to another rider and had not been seen in the five years leading up to the events of Fourth Wing.[1]

Brennan Sorrengail[]

During the Tyrrish Rebellion, Naolin attempted to revive Brennan through his signet, even though there is no signet capable of resurrection, and he depleted himself in the process.[1] During the events in Iron Flame Violet mentions Naolin to her brother and is left under the impression that there might have been something more going on between Brennan and Naolin prior to his death.[4]

Quotes[]

"He died trying to save your brother, but Brennan was too far gone." - Professor Kaori about Naolin[1]
