–Mira Sorrengail, Iron Flame, Chapter 41 | ||
Mira Sorrengail is a First-Lieutenant Rider and bonded to Teine. She's the daughter of General Lilith Sorrengail and Asher Sorrengail, and sister to both Brennan and Violet Sorrengail.[1]
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Mira grew up wanting to be a rider, and, according to Violet, by the time Mira was twenty, she had been training in hand-to-hand combat for twelve years.[2] When she entered the Riders Quadrant, her brother Brennan gave her the Book of Brennan to help her survive in the quadrant. She went on to thrive in the quadrant, despite being targeted by other cadets[3] due to her mother being General Sorrengail. Mira only ever gained one scar during her time in the quadrant, which she got from her dragon, Teine, during Threshing.
Prior to the events in Fourth Wing, Mira earned the Order of the Talon for her role in the Battle of Strythemore. She was then sent to patrol the border with the Eastern Wing as a lieutenant in the Navarrian military.[1]
Fourth Wing[]
Violet has not seen Mira in years when Mira arrives at Basgiath War College on Conscription Day. Mira is furious with their mother for forcing Violet to enter the Riders Quadrant instead of the Scribe Quadrant as Violet wanted. Mira gives Violet a custom-made vest made of her dragon Teine's scales, a pair of rider boots, and repacks Violet's bag to help her survive Parapet and the Rider's Quadrant.[1]
Mira accompanies Violet to the base of the turret, giving verbal advice on potential allies, Dain Aetos, their childhood friend, and enemies, Xaden Riorson.
After Violet survives Parapet, Mira is able to smuggle the Book of Brennan to her bunk which she used to survive the Quadrant herself.
Stationed at Montserrat, when Fourth Wing wins the chance to visit an outpost, Violet and Mira reunite. Witnessing the strained relationships Violet is currently contending with regarding both Dain and Xaden, Mira gives advice to all 3 of them. A drift of gryphons attack the outpost, Mira mounts up to defend the outpost. This causes the students to end their trip early and flee despite Violet's protests.
Iron Flame[]
Mira writes to Violet,[4] now that she is a second-year rider, that she has been reassigned to Athebyne. Any other details in the letter are redacted.
Later, during one of Violet's visits to Xaden, Mira interrupts their kiss, having just been reassigned to Samara where Xaden has been since his graduation. Mira immediately recognizes Violet's feelings for Xaden and calls her out for them. The sisters discuss Xaden, RSC training, and wards all while Mira is unaware that Violet is keeping a secret from her. Violet tries to clue Mira in on the real threat to the continent, but Mira is oblivious to the suggested truth.
After an attack at Samara, Mira is unharmed and tells Violet where to find Xaden who has now recovered from an injury.
After Wyvern corpses are dropped at the outposts, Mira leads the riot of riders joining the revolution in Aretia from the front lines of Navarre. When she reunites with Violet, she apologizes for not realizing that Violet was telling her the truth at Samara[5]. This is the first time Mira has seen Brennan since his reported death. Her response to the discovery was a swift, unapologetic punch to the face[5] thus breaking his nose, and the two continued to bicker[6] until Violet intervened.

Physical Description[]
Mira Sorrengail by Leah Croft
Mira is described as a younger version of her mother. With warm brown eyes, she is tall with strong hands, and powerful muscles toned from years of sparring and hundreds of hours spent on the back of her dragon. She is especially known for her right hook[7]. She practically glows with health and her golden-brown hair is sheared short for combat in the same style as her mother's.[1] She survived all three years at Basgiath with only one scar. She is everything Violet doesn't see in herself. Professor Kaori later describes Mira as shrewd and gifted in the seat when it comes to riding.[8]
Personality[]
She carries herself with a sense of arrogance and unwavering conviction that she belongs in the sky. According to Violet, she often argues with their mother, which garners her respect in her mother's eyes. Mira has their father's laugh[9] and warmth. Mira is vocal about her frequent affairs with other riders. Violet further describes Mira as shrewd, cunning, and a touch cruel. Mira is also fiercely loyal and protective of her siblings, especially Violet. She goes the extra mile for her, commissioning special rider boots and dragon-scale armor from her own dragon to protect her in the Riders Quadrant.

As a rider whose dragon is channeling through them, Mira is capable of performing lesser magic. With this channeling, Mira is able to do things like locking and unlocking doors without touching them, moving with preternatural speed, manipulate mage lights, and power ink pens. Lesser magic also allows Mira to place runes.[10]
Signet[]

Relationships[]
Lilith Sorrengail[]
Mira is "never done arguing" with her mother. Unlike with Violet, their mother has always respected Mira for this.[1] When Mira discovers Brennan is alive and he says that he hopes his "death" haunts Lilith, Mira tells him that's not fair - that while she might not agree with what he mother did, she understands "how she thought it was best to keep us safe."[11]

Brennan Sorrengail[]
Her older brother. They were inseparable as kids.[12] They both trained for the Riders Quadrant, sparring each other. It is alluded at their reunion that it isn't the first time she's broken his nose[6]. Mira and Brennan share a rocky relationship after she discovers that he has been alive in hiding for the past six years since his alleged death. Mira does not forgive her brother for allowing them to believe he was dead, blaming her mothers cold-hearted attitude and their fathers death on his decision to remain in hiding. She frequently mocks him for his decisions. According to Mira she is a better swordsman than he is.[13]
Violet Sorrengail[]
Violet and Mira grew up together, with Mira being overprotective over Violet and being against their mother's decision to sent her little sister to the Riders Quadrant. She makes sure that despite her disadvantages, she will stay safe, such as advising her to at least keep her hair braided for combat and to wear the vest-shaped corset made out of her dragon's scales, that is able to withstand knives and daggers. She tells Violet to stay away from Xaden, as he will try to kill her at any cost to avenge his family. Even after claiming Tairn and Andarna, Mira makes sure that Violet will be safe from any harm.
Teine[]
Teine is Mira's Green Clubtail dragon. Mira knew she wanted to seek out Teine by the time she got to Threshing.
Xaden Riorson[]
Mira is initially mistrustful of Xaden, due to their families complicated history, advising Violet to stay away from him in the Riders Quadrant. However, this changes as Mira realizes Xaden and his people have been fighting a real war against the Venin that Navarre has been cowardly hiding for years. She later admits that she likes when Xaden is over-protective of Violet as it makes her worry about her younger sister less.[13]
