The term mate describes a certain relationship between dragons.
General Information[]
“ | There is no stronger bond than that between two mated dragons. It goes beyond the depth of human love or adoration to a primal, undeniable requirement for proximity. One cannot survive without the other. | ” |
–Colonel Kaori's Field Guide To Dragonkind [1] |
Dragons mate for life and - once they are mated - cannot be separated for long, or their overall health diminishes.
Mated dragons usually bond to cadets in the same year, so they can graduate in the same year, and be assigned to a post together. The known exception is the bonded pair Tairneanach and Sgaeyl, who bond to the humans Xaden and Violet, who are in different years.
Known Mated Pairs[]
- Tairneanach and Sgaeyl are currently the strongest mated pair in centuries.
- Greim and Maise have been mated for decades, can communicate between Basgiath and Samara[2]
