Luella was a first-year flier cadet and was bonded to the gryphon Cibbelair.
Biography[]
Luella was a flier cadet within Bragen's drift[1] who climbed the Dralor Mountains in an attempt to relocate to Aretia after The Assembly struck a deal with Viscount Tecarus for the luminary in exchange for educating the fliers.[2] Luella is bonded to Cibbelair, and it's her death that reveals that gryphons die when their flier dies.[3]
During the hike up the Medaro Pass, Luella suffers from altitude sickness and is unable to jump over a pressure trigger. She tumbles into Violet Sorrengail, sending them both toward the edge of the cliff. Ridoc Gamlyn is able to pull Violet up, but Luella and Visia Hawelynn slide over the edge, Visia clinging to Violet's left hand and Luella on her right. Luella's gryphon tries to catch her with his beak but Visia is in the way. The gryphon pulls Visia to safety but Luella falls to her death before he can reach her.[3]
Physical Description[]
Luella is a small flier with pale, nearly white hair and freckles. She's physically similar to Violet, the smallest of the fliers. She's right-handed.[3] Luella has hazel eyes.[4]
Personality[]
Maren states that Luella is the nicest of their drift, and bakes really good butterscotch cake.[3]
