Heaton is one of the two third-year cadets in Violet Sorrengail's squad during Fourth Wing.[1] After graduation, they return along with Emery and join the Revolution led by Xaden Riorson, also joining the latter for missions outside Aretia.

Early Life[]
Heaton entered the Riders Quadrant and bonded a dragon. They manifested the signet of breathing underwater.
Fourth Wing[]
Heaton says to Violet "best of luck" on the morning of presentation day, and taps their heart, offering the first-year cadets "a genuine but flat lipped smile." Ridoc comments that he didn't realize Heaton actually knew how to speak.[1]
Iron Flame[]
Heaton is injured in the attack on Pavis, with the right side of their face being "one giant contusion" and a splinted right arm. Heaton, along with Bodhi and Garrick. relays to Violet that Nyra was killed and their voice breaks.[2]
Physical Description[]
Is the thickest third-year in Violet's squad with red flames cut and dyed into their hair.[1] The flames in their hair are later dyed green after Violet's Threshing.[3]
They wear two patches over their heart. They carry a circular patch on their upper right arm with a water and floating spheres logo, and a triangular patch to the left of it with a longsword that means they're not to be messed with on the sparring mat.[1]
Personality[]
Heaton is generally a quiet person, at least to the first-years in their squad. Ridoc didn't even know if they spoke until the day of their Presentation.[1] They have no ambition to be in leadership.[4]

Lesser Magic[]
Every rider is capable of using Lesser magic once their dragon begins channeling through them after Threshing. With this channeling, riders are able to; open doors without touching them, preternatural speed, manipulating mage lights, and powering ink pens.[5] Lesser magic also allows riders to place runes.

Heaton is skilled in combat training, earning them a patch with a longsword that signifies thet they aren't to be messed with on the sparring mat.[1] Cianna notes that, along with Liam, they will decimate on the mat for the challenge competition portion of squad battles.[6]

Emery is the only remaining squadmate in their year by the time they reach third-year. They are often seen together.

Xaden is a rider in the same year as Heaton. He is their wingleader until graduation. After graduation, they work alongside Xaden in the Revolution.
