Fen Riorson was Xaden Riorson's father and the leader of the Tyrrish Rebellion. He died during the final days of the rebellion.

Biography[]

Fen went into the infantry and hoped his son, Xaden Riorson would too.[1] While much of his life is unknown, he did have a sister and nephew, Bodhi Durran.[2]

As the Duke of Aretia,[3] Fen entered a contractual relationship with Xaden's mother, Talia, to give him an heir. After fulfilling the contract Talia left, leaving Fen and Xaden behind in Riorson House, Aretia.[4]

In the years following his wife's absence Fen began to gather allies as he attempted to secede from Navarre, going as far as to enter his son in a similar betrothal contract with Catriona Cordella,[5] third in line for Poromiel's throne.[6] Fen was thus most known for beginning and leading what is known as the Tyrrish Rebellion, or Apostasy. According to battlefield reports Fen was responsible for shooting Brennan Sorrengail in the chest with a crossbolt during the Battle of Aretia,[7] and was subsequently apprehended by General Lilith Sorrengail.[8] During his interrogation, Fen accused King Tauri, and those who came before him, of an unspeakable conspiracy.[9]

In his last days of interrogation, Fen Riorson lost touch with reality, railing against the kingdom of Navarre. He accused King Tauri, and all who came before him, of a conspiracy so vast, so unspeakable, that it does not bear repeating by this historian. The execution was swift and merciful for a madman who cost untold lives.

Navarre, An Unedited History by Colonel Lewis Markham

He was executed by Codagh's dragonfire along with the rest of the rebellions leadership.[8] His name was on the death roll from the Calldyr executions.[10]

King Courtlyn of Deverelli mentions to Xaden that Fen was able to hold his end bargain, but the extent of his work with Deverelli is yet to be revealed.[11]

Personality[]

Fen thought riders were pompous pricks.[1] He used to tell his son that venin would come for him if he wouldn't eat his vegetables.[12]

Fen writes that aristocratic marriage is a necessary evil and love should be saved for one's children. It's implied that he was not a loving husband to Talia.[13]

Xaden Riorson[]

His one and only son, Fen betrothed Xaden to Catriona Cordella through a marriage contract to secure the luminary that would allow Tyrrendor to make their own alloyed daggers.[5] During the Tyrrish Rebellion, Xaden used to wait on the rooftop for his father to come home.[14] Fen sent Xaden away before the Battle of Aretia for his own safety. Xaden however was angry at his father for this, so Xaden's last words to his father were in anger. Xaden regrets this, but he likes to believe that his father forgave him.[15] Fen wanted Xaden to go to the Infantry Quadrant,[1] he also taught Xaden certain manners, like holding a door open for others.[16] He used to tell his son that venin would come for him if he wouldn't eat his vegetables.[12]

Bodhi Durran[]
