As a rider whose dragon is channeling through them, Cohen is capable of performing lesser magic. With this channeling, Cohen is able to do things like locking and unlocking doors without touching them, moving with preternatural speed, manipulate mage lights, and power ink pens. During their first land navigation exercise, Ridoc finds a kindred spirit in Cohen. When the scribe in their group asks what to do when they come across a dragon, Ridoc jokes that they will choose a sacrifice and run. Cohen implies that the sacrifice will be eaten by the dragon. Ridoc responds "You are now my favorite year-mate," and throws his arm over Cohen's shoulder.[1]
