Caroline was a first-year unbonded cadet until she bonded Gleann after his rider died during their first flight lesson.[1] She seems close to Jack Barlowe, and is often seen with him. She is in First Wing.[2]
Iron Flame[]
Caroline works alongside Nolon to help Jack recover after Violet nearly killed him.[3] She runs to the infirmary to summon Jack when Colonel Markham asks her to during Battle Brief. When she returns to the class with him, she escorts him back to his squad.[4]

Caroline has a need to know information. In the first day of Rider Survival Course, she asks for details about when the course evaluations will be[2] and she asks Violet's squad how they escaped the interrogation chamber.[4] She has a ruthless streak as evidenced by her bonding a dragon just after its rider died[1], her suggestion in Battle Brief to retaliate against Poromish citizens for an attack by gryphon fliers,[5] and her glare at Violet for seemingly no reason when they run into each other in the hallway while she meets up with Nolon.[3]

Lesser Magic[]
As a rider whose dragon is channeling through them, Caroline is capable of performing lesser magic. With this channeling, Caroline is able to do things like locking and unlocking doors without touching them, moving with preternatural speed, manipulate mage lights, and power ink pens. Lesser magic also allows her to place runes.

Jack apparently suggested that Caroline try to bond Gleann after his rider died during flight lessons. Jack celebrates her success.[1]
After Jack is crushed beneath a mountain during War Games, Caroline visits him in the infirmary.[3] She escorts him back to his squad when his survival is announced during Battle Brief.[4] She is seen walking at his side across the courtyard on a Saturday evening.[6]
