Biography[]
Early Life[]
At some point in his life, General Melgren became the commanding General of all of Navarre.[1] He had his dragon, Codagh, execute the rebellion leaders by dragonfire. However, unbeknownst to them at the time, the leaders carried runes carved into stone which led to the creation of Rebellion Relics marking each of the 107 children, left behind by their parents. [2]
Fourth Wing[]
Melgren is present during the Threshing. He announces that the Empyrean has decided in the case of Violet Sorrengail. Telling all riders, that there is no dragon law that forbids that a rider can bound to two dragons as well, simply because it never happened before. He says that dragons make their own laws, even when humans would consider these laws unfair. Melgren then announces that the decision of Tairn and Andarna to bound to Violet is valid, ending all discussions about it.[3]
Iron Flame[]
Violet and Xaden each receive a missive from Melgren, ordering that they each get only two days leave every fourteen day for their dragons to fly to each other.[4]
He "sees" (thanks to his battle foresight signet) a battle against Venin at Samara on solstice where Navarre loses. Because of this, he calls for a meeting the the assembly of the Revolution, asking for them to join forces and fight together. Although the assembly refused to provide assistance, he brings the Navarrian military to Samara to prepare for battle. However, when he receives word that the Venin are attacking Basgiath, he quickly flies back.[5]
During the battle of Basgiath, Melgren, General Sorrengail, and his aides give orders from the ground. After the battle concludes, Melgren negotiates with Professor Devera for the riders in the Revolution to return to Basgiath.[6]
Physical Description[]
Beady, calculating eyes.[1] He wears rage like it's part of his uniform.[7] He has a hawkish nose.[8]
Personality[]
General Melgren is terrifying. He has no problem with sacrificing the Infantry like they are worth nothing. He is cruel when it comes to the interrogation or the execution of prisoners.[3]
Power and Abilities[]
Powers[]
Lesser Magic[]
Every rider is capable of using lesser magic once their dragon begins channeling through them after Threshing. With this channeling, riders are able to; open doors without touching them, preternatural speed, manipulating mage lights, and powering ink pens.[9] Lesser magic also allows riders to place runes.
Signet[]
Battle Foresight[]
He can see the outcome of battles before they happen, however he cannot determine when the battle will happen.[10] He cannot "see" the outcome of a battle involving three or more people marked with Rebellion Relics, as the combination of the runes used by separatists and Codagh's dragonfire negate his signet.

Relationships[]
Codagh[]
Codagh is Melgren's monstrous, nightmare of a dragon.[3] Codagh held back important information about the knowledge the eldest of the dragons really have, especially wards and Andarna. He did not tell his rider, because the dragons protect the dragonworld.[11]
