Amber Mavis was the wingleader from Third Wing and close friend of Dain Aetos.[1]
Biography[]
Early Life[]
She was born and raised in Tyrrendor but her family stayed loyal to Navarre during the Tyrrish Rebellion so they were all able to live and Amber was not marked with a rebellion relic.[2]
She later joined the Riders Quadrant, bonded an orange daggertail, Claidh,[2] and earned the rank of wingleader.[1]
Fourth Wing[]
Amber is antagonistic towards Violet after she completes the gauntlet, claiming Violet has broken codex rules.[3]
When Violet is attacked in her room, Amber is revealed to be the one who let the attackers in. Xaden accused her of violating Article Three, Section Two of the Dragon Rider's Codex, a capital offense, during formation. The wingleaders formed a quorum and found Amber guilty by unanimous agreement after Violet's dragon, Tairneanach, shared her memory of the attack with everyone present. After initially having denied involvement, Amber declares that it is not a crime to rid the quadrant of the weakest rider, explaining that she did it to protect the integrity of the wings. Tairneanach carries out the sentence of execution by dragon fire.[2]

Lesser Magic[]
As a rider whose dragon is channeling through them, Amber is capable of performing lesser magic. With this channeling, Amber is able to do things like locking and unlocking doors without touching them, moving with preternatural speed, manipulate mage lights, and power ink pens. Lesser magic also allows Amber to place runes.

Dain Aetos[]
As a first-year, Dain said he was close friends with the then second-year, Amber, however it is heavily implied that their relationship was more than a friendship. When it is found out that Amber led the group of unbonded cadets into Violet's room to try and kill her, Dain refuses to believe that and continually pressures Violet to renounce her statement.
Claidh[]
Claidh is her bonded dragon. He is protective of his rider as shown when he tries to stand up to the other dragons before she is executed.[2]
